About Risheehat Estate
Darjeeling, river terraces · 2,500–4,800 ft · est. 1900s
Steep terraced sections, cut by perennial rivers that keep the soil fertile and the humidity high. The name means “Home of Holy Saints”. Certified organic, so the ground is worked with compost and cover rather than fed.
ProductionTraditional Orthodox, with a long, slow wither that is the estate's method and the reason its teas come out delicate and floral rather than brisk. Oxidation is judged by lot, which is how the same garden yields both an oolong and a black in one season.
