About us

onnbon is a friends and family project. We bring South Asian single estate teas to lovely community spaces, to nurture discovery, thinking and connecting. We collaborate with beautiful spaces and creators.

Single estate tea

Like a vineyard, every tea estate has its own terroir (soil, weather, altitude and cultivars) and its own way of picking and processing.

Flush is the harvest season, and it varies by region. Early flushes are delicate, floral and nuanced; later flushes are bolder, mellower, and often preferred with milk.

Vintage (year + flush + processing) makes every lot a unique expression of its estate. We seek out interesting estates, hard-to-find teas and whole-leaf grades up to SFTGFOP1, rich in golden buds.

Darjeeling
Gopaldhara Established 1881 in the Mirik valley near the Nepal border, with gardens among Darjeeling's highest, up to 7,000 ft. Cool mist and cold Himalayan streams run through the sections.
Rohini Planted in 1955 in Kurseong, then left wild from 1962 to 1996. That pause shaped the bushes into something unusual; the teas are small-batch and one of a kind.
Risheehat Established in the 1900s, “Home of Holy Saints.” Steep terraces fed by perennial rivers. Certified organic, with a long traditional wither for complex, delicate, floral teas.
Turzum Established in the mid-1860s in the Rung Bong valley. Cool mist and fertile Himalayan soil; known for complex, rich flavors.
Assam
Mangalam Founded 1973 in Sibsagar, Upper Assam, near the Brahmaputra. Greenhouse-like heat and rich alluvial soil give full-bodied, robust teas.
Karbi Anglong onnbon exclusive Hand-made by Karbi women in the Diring River Basin, in the hills south of Kaziranga. Plucked, hand-rolled and sun-dried at home, through PIRBI, a community initiative with the conservation group Aaranyak.
